ALS & Neurodegenerative Disease
ALS and related diseases progress in ways that make clinic visits harder every month. Bringing the physician home preserves energy for the things that matter and keeps the plan ahead of the disease.
How we care for it at home
- Symptom management for spasticity, cramps, secretions, and pain.
- Coordination with neurology, respiratory, speech, and PT/OT.
- Equipment and home adaptations timed before crises.
- Advance care planning — noninvasive ventilation, feeding, hospice — while there's still time.
What we watch for
- Respiratory function and swallowing at every visit.
- Weight loss and nutrition.
- Caregiver burnout, which is nearly universal.
- Depression and anxiety, both treatable and often missed.
